Lester Alvin Rhoades was born August 29, 1901 in Moline, Nebraska to David and Louisa (Nissen) Rhoades. He entered into rest on September 21, 1984 at the Community Hospital in McCook, Nebraska at the age of 83 years.

He married Geraldine McCollum on September 6, 1926 at Wray, Colorado. To this union were born three children. After a few years at Culbertson, they moved to Menlo, Kansas where Lester was engaged in farming for 18 years. They returned to Culbertson where they were residing at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters, one son, Robert, and three grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine; two daughters, Mrs. Forest (Doris) Liester of Montrose, Colorado; and Mrs. Jack (Evelyn) Hook of Indianola, Nebraska; one brother, Ernest of McCook; two sisters, Mrs. Ernest (Mildred) Pennell of Benkelman and Mrs. Cecil (Mabel) McDermed of Culbertson; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

Services were held on September 24, 1984 at the United Methodist Church in Culbertson with the Rev. J.B. Choate officiating. Interment was in the Culbertson Cemetery.
