Mason City — Doris E. Coleman, 86, of Mason City died Monday, July 22, 2012, at Muse Norris Hospice, Mason City, after facing the challenges of Alzheimer’s the past several years with the loving care of her husband, Herb, and her family.
Doris’s family will host a gathering from 4-6 p.m. Friday, July, 27, 2012, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City, followed by a Service of Remembrance at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor. Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
Memorials given in memory of Doris will be used to benefit the Alzheimer’s unit at IOOF Home, 1037 19th St. S.W., Mason City, Iowa 50401
Doris E. Coleman was born Dec. 19, 1925, at Mason City, a daughter of John Ernest and Elsie Mae (Statzer) Anderson. She was united in marriage to Humbert “Herb” Coleman Jr. on Jan. 29, 1945 at Mason City.
She graduated from Mason City High School, and was a member of the first graduating class of the L.P.N. program at NIACC.
For 26 years Doris worked as the head nurse at the former Park Clinic in the Surgical Department, and in the Emergency Room at Park Hospital, Mason City.
After retiring from nursing, she served as a nanny for several Mason City physicians, including, Dr. Silberstein, Dr. Schularick, Dr. Schurtz, Dr. Karkos, Dr. Crane, Dr. Lee and Dr. Levinson.
Doris and Herb enjoyed riding their Harley- Davidson motorcycle throughout the United States and Canada.
They were inseparable. Their life was centered on their family and caring for one another.
She is survived by her husband, Humbert “Herb” Coleman Jr., Mason City; a daughter, Carole (Robert) Coleman Byers, Treasure Island, Fla./Clear Lake; a son, Robert (Kathleen) Coleman, Grimes; grandchildren, Mikal (Linda) Byers, Owenton, Ky., Marc-deceased (Bambi) Byers, Pleasant Hill, Suzanne (Kenneth) Prestholt, Mason City, Calandra Slauson, Des Moines, Casandra (Anthony) Sciorrotta, Granger; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Mikala, Allison, Jadyn, Jace, Kayla, Hunter, Colton, Rylie Jo, Teigan, Taityn, Truman, Dante, Dominic; brothers, Don “Bub” (Alice) Anderson, Mason City; Dan Anderson, Apache Junction, Ariz., Ken (Ruth) Anderson, Apache Junction, Ariz.; sisters, Barb (John) Davisson, Charlotte, N.C., Norma (Jerome) Farrell, Mason City; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Harold Anderson and Jimmy Anderson; and a grandson, Marc Byers, on March 8, 2011.
