Joseph C. Murphy (Oct 8, 1988)Joseph C. Murphy, 83, of Route 1, Waterford, died on arrival Saturday evening at Selby General Hospital in Marietta.He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Hicks Murphy.

His home had been in Calhoun County before coming to Washington County in 1945. He had been employed at American Cyanamid until his retirement. He was a member of the Decatur Chapel Church.

He is survived by his wife, Darkis Jarvis Murphy; four daughters, Bernice Ash of Athens, Ohio, Alma Murphy of Wooster, Ohio, Mabel Carpenter of Marietta, and Rosalie Huff of Waterford; 17 grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; a half-brother, Curt Sampson of Parkersburg; and two half-sisters, Corrine Decker of New Orleans, La., and Lummie Murphy of Calhoun County.

He was preceded in death by two sons and one daughter.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at McClure-Schafer Funeral Home in Marietta. Burial will be in the Barlow Cemetery at Barlow.Friends may call at the funeral home from this morning until the hour of service. (Oct 11, 1988)
