He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Joe Merritt Jr & one sister Sandra Jean Merritt.

Danny grew up in Terre Haute living at 1105 Harding Ave & at 1325 Harding Ave in Terre Haute with family always close by. He sat many an evenings at 1321 Harding Ave where his Grandma Nellie Barrett lived; watching the sunset as he learned to read on her porch reading her The Bible. His time spent with his family & grandparents were treasured memories for him. He cherished his time spent at his father Joes cabin on the Wabash River; & shared a love for fishing with his father, brother & other family members.

In the summer of 1952 he & his family moved from 1325 Harding Ave to 3333 N 23rd Street where he resided until the age of 18. He attended Crawford Elementary, Rankin Elementary, Rankin Jr High & Gerstmeyer Technical High School all in Terre Haute; graduating 6 June 1960 receiving a certification in welding. He worked several odd jobs growing up but best remembered & talked about his years delivering newspapers on his bicycle that he was given to him by his Grandpa Harry Flora.

On 19 June 1960 Danny enlisted in the US Navy. He attended boot camp in Illinois at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center; graduating in September of 1960. He was assigned to the San Diego Naval Base in California where he received his Class A Shipfitter & Metalsmith education while serving on W O 200 refueling tanker stationed in the San Diego harbor. After 1 year in September 1961 he had advanced & was relocated for duty. In October 1961 he was assigned to USS North Hampton DLC-1 in Norfolk, Virginia but when President Kennedy ordered the USS Kaskaskia out of storage from WW2 his orders changed & in December 1961 he was sent to Hoboken, Hudson, New Jersey where the USS Kaskaskia was dry docked for repairs & ordered to board until ready. Danny served on the USS Kaskaskia AO27 until his discharge. On 16 May 1963 while on the ship in the middle of the Mediterranean he received his 2nd class (Metalsmith) Shipfitter. He served his country during The Bay of Pigs & the Cuban Missile Crisis.

On 9 Oct 1963 Danny was hired as a quality control inspector for Chrysler Corporation on Shadeland Ave. in Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana. He attended Arsenal Technical Evening School from Sept 1973 to March 1976 receiving training & certification for Plumbing, Pipefitting, Blue Print & Mechanical Drawing; Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Hydraulics & Welding. He would go on to advance his trades & hold several positions at Chrysler with his final trade at retirement as a Skill Trade Cutter Grinder. He loved his job & was proud to be a part of the Chrysler Corporation. At the age of 52 & 30 years with the company Danny retired in 1993. He was a member of the UAW Local 685.

From 1968 to 1970 he resided at 5025 Evanston Ave., Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana. In 1970 he moved his family to 1914 N Spencer Ave., Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana. In the fall of 1977 Danny dream of owning his own farm came true & in December he purchased a farm on Co Rd 300 E in Quincy, Owen, Indiana; while commuting the long daily drive to Indianapolis to work at Chrysler. In May 1985 he purchased a cabin on the West Fork of the White River outside of Washington, Daviess, Indiana where he & his family made lots of memories & caught several fish. There were tales of Â"the one that got awayÂ" on occasion while sitting around the fire late at night. He & his family made lifetime friends living here & would come to know Daviess County as their second home.

In 1988 Danny was relocated to Chryslers Kokomo, Howard, Indiana plant due to cutbacks when the Shadeland Ave., Indianapolis plant closed. Danny lived at 3073 S 337 E & at 3415 E Co Rd 300 S in Center, Howard, Indiana from 1988 until his retirement in 1993. After retirement Danny moved to 10284 E Wheatland Rd, Wheatland, Knox, Indiana. His ashes will be spread across the bridge that spans the West Fork of the White River, in Daviess County, Indiana at a later date. A celebration of life was held at the French Lick American Legion Post 76.

Danny loved to reminiscence & tell stories; laugh & have a good time. He was a wonderful Brother, Uncle, Husband, Father & Grandfather; & friend to many. He loved to cook wild game of all sorts including his most entertaining catch of turtle; but known to family for making the best biscuits & gravy. He loved to fish, hunt, play Horseshoes, Chess, Poker & Euchre; Gardening & Canning; Colts football, Nascar & spending time with his family. He dedicated his life to his country & to his family. He is missed dearly by all.
