Sarah was the daughter of Thompson Nathaniel "Nat" Statham and Sarah Fitzgerald. She married Hezekiah K. Anderson in Wilcox County on Jul. 25, 1867 and they had 14 children, five of whom died in infancy: Allie Ann, Addie Lee, William Robert, and two unnamed infants, gender unknown.

Surviving children of Hezekiah and Sarah were:

Julia Ann, m. Noah Griffin Heath

Thomas I., m. Nannie

James Turner, m. Mary Harper, Joanna McRae

Rebecca, m. Sam C. Coley

Mary Pearl, married James Irwin Boatwright

Fannie B., m. James A. Turner

Jennie, m. Claud L. Thomason

Helen, m. Dennis J. Wester

Willie E., m. Josiah Keen

Sarah's daughter, Helen (Mrs. D.J. Wester), was the informant for her death certificate, but the date of birth may be incorrect. In 1900, it was reported as October 1848, which is consistent with Sarah's age in 1850 and 1860. Other censuses yield a birth year between 1846-1850.
