"Thompson Nathaniel "Nat" Statham was born in Washington County, Georgia. He was the son of Nathaniel Statham, born c1762 in Louisa County, Virgina; died c1853 in Irwin County, Georgia. His mother is unknown. Nat was the grandson of John and Susannah (Thomson) Statham, who relocated from Albemarle County, Virginia, to Elbert County, Georgia, in the 1790's; his unusual given name probably came from his paternal grandmother's family name. He was the great-grandson of Love and Martha Statham of Louisa County, Virginia. Children of Nat and his wife, Sarah Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) Statham, were John Alexander Statham, Charles A. Statham, David Statham, Thomas John Statham, William Statham and Sarah Jane (Statham) Anderson. Nat was active with the Georgia Militia from his early 20's, and served with the Mounted Stewart Rangers (Stewart County) in the Florida Indian War of the 1830's." -- Contributed by Donna Newman.
