Wilhelm was born in the village of Hainchen in the Budigen district to Johann Christian Henrich and Maria Elizabeth Schilling. The village records show many "stocking weavers". When the Industrial Revolution came to Europe, the trade in small towns languished. The Henrich family immigrated to the United States, his brother Heinrich being the first. Wilhelm came to the US with his fiancé, Maria Rau, and her family from Calbach on the ship "America", arriving in New York on November 7, 1864. He lived for a short time in the City of Pittsburgh, next to his brother Heinrich, and married in St. John's Church in Lawrenceville. He bought a farm in Indiana Township. He probably died there, but there is so far no documentation of the exact location.
