LAKEWOOD -- Raymond E. Burton, 91, of Lakewood, formerly of Lorain, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, in Lakewood Senior Center, following a lengthy illness.

He was born Aug. 31, 1915, in Monroeville and lived in Lorain from 1920 until he moved to Lakewood.

Burton worked as an ore bridge operator at U.S. Steel's Lorain Works from 1945 until his retirement in 1972.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in June 1941, served in the China-Burma-India region and was discharged with the rank of sergeant in 1945 after World War II ended.

Survivors include his sons Robert M. Burton of Newburgh, N.Y., Timothy J. Burton of Lorain and Raymond P. Burton of Cleveland; daughter: Joan M. Burton of Oberlin; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen T. (nee Feeley), in 1982; a daughter, Marilyn Grace Burton; and his parents and siblings.

Friends may call Friday, 2 and 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at Reidy-Scanlan-Chambers Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain. On Saturday friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 310 W. Eighth St., Lorain. The Rev. James Becherer will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
