The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Folk Funeral Home. Jim passed away Friday, September 04, 2015, at Laurel Baye Nursing Home. As Jim entered eternal peace with his Savior, he was surrounded by his loved ones.
Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 29 years, Ruby Hutto Buice, his children, Janet (Jerry) Nesmith, Jim (Laura) Buice, Tim (Sallie) Buice, his stepchildren Susan (John) Gore, Sandra (Sam) Tune, Linda Owen, and Larry Vintson. He was predeceased by a daughter, Cheri (John) Barnes. Grandchildren are Jenny Kinard, Jason Buice, Ashley Hardee, Kelli Roof, Kevin Buice, Holli Rich, Jeremy Croft and 18 Great Grands.
Jim was born in Winnsboro, SC, on June 15, 1927, to Thomas Lee and Maggie Johnson Buice. He served in the US Navy during WWII and also in the Korean Conflict. He retired from E.I. Du Pont at the Savannah River Site after over 35 years of service as a lab technician.
Jim was a sports enthusiast. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing with his buddies. He was an amateur boxer and loved to tell stories about his boxing days. His passion was baseball as a player, a coach and an umpire. He was an umpire for many years with Williston Dixie Youth Baseball and made an impact on the lives of many young people. He also enjoyed roaming local land around Williston and collecting arrow points. He was also a Mason (Hope Lodge 126). Jim’s idea of Heaven on earth was to be in the mountains near Henderson or Saluda, North Carolina, with all his family. In the last few years, he loved spending time with his grand dog Allie at home and when “Miss Ruby” would ride them around in the car.
Jim was a charter member of Winfield Heights Baptist Church and a current member of Rosemary Baptist Church.
A sincere thank you to the dedicated staff at the Laurel Baye Nursing Home for the care extended during his stay at the facility.
Memorials may be made to Rosemary Baptist Church (14370 Main Street, Williston, SC 29853) or the Williston Recreation Department (301 West Main Street, Williston, SC 29853)
