Swannanoa - Verdelle Lester Buice, 85, of Swannanoa died Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at the Asheville V.A. Medical Center following a period of declining health.

A native of Augusta, Georgia. He had resided in Bamberg, S.C. for most of his life prior to moving to Asheville in June of 1992.

Mr. Buice retired in 1966 from Dupont after many years of service and was a professional barber. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church where he was a member of the Clyde Freeman Sunday School Class and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during W.W. I I. He was an avid golfher and a past member of the Buncombe County Golf Course.

He was a son of the late Thomas L. and Maggie Mae Johnson Buice and the husband of 55 years to Patsy Pearle Buice who died in 1992.

Masonic Graveside rites will be conducted at South End Cemetery in Bamberg by the Ornan Masonic Lodge # 38 of which he was a member for 55 years.
