MARY J. SWAN
Mary Janette Swan died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 1921, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edward E. Evans, at West Branch. Mrs. Swan had been in poor health several years. Mary Janette Foster was born Jan. 31, 1845, at Armada, Macomb county, Michigan, and was married to Johnson Swan March 5, 1871, at Romeo, Mich. They came to Gladwin the same month and located on the Nelson Plude farm in Grout township where they lived until they moved to the village of Cedar, now Gladwin, in 1880, and started in the mercantile business at the present location of the Gladwin County Record print shop. After several years' residence in town they bought a farm in Grout township and moved onto it. Here they lived until Mr. Swan's death March 16, 1914. After Mr. Swan's death Mrs. Swan made her home at the farm and afterwards with her daughter at West Branch. Three children, Edward P., Carrie M., and Avis, who died 11 years ago, were born to them.
The body was brought to Gladwin Friday morning by her son, Edward P. Swan of Cheboygan, and her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Edward E. Evans, of West Branch, and taken to the Grout township schoolhouse No. 1, where services were held conducted by Rev. W. J. Cross. Interment was made in Grout cemetery beside her husband and daughter.
