Obituary of Pemelia Novella Roberts Poteet from the Alabama Enquirer newspaper, Hartselle, AL November 9, 1893

Pemelia Novella Poteet, daughter of William J. and Betsie Ann Roberts, was born in White Co., near Sparta, Tenn., October 13, 1872. Died at Alvorsdo (sic), Texas Aug. 7th, 1893. When but a child her parents moved from Tenn. to Danville, Ala. where she grew to be a bright and beautiful woman. She was married to William Poteet the 9th of June, 1889. God gave them three sweet little babes, but their stay on earth was brief. Little Jimmie and Louly made home radiant with their smiles for a short while; but like the early dew drops that stay not for the rising sun, they soon went up to God. Her parents dedicated her to God in infancy by baptism; and she appreciated this obligation to the church when she grew to riper years. At Johnson's Chapel on the 7th Day of August 1888, she was converted and joined the Methodist Church South, under the ministry of Rev. Ed Fulmer. From the day of her conversion to the day she went home to God, she lived a faithful life. Her conversion was bright and brought her great peace. When at home with her mother, she would praise God for his loving kindness and tender mercies. With a heart full of gratitude, she thanked her father on starting to Texas for the kindness he had always shown her, especially in her sickness. "We may not meet any more on earth, but I will meet you in heaven". These words will ever linger in the memory of devoted parents, as last words only can, from the lips of a loving child.
