Josephine was the 1st child born to Frank & Katherine Machacek. Her birthplace was house #491 Kutna Hora. When she was almost 7 years old, she contracted Dropsy and died. She was buried in the Church Graveyard, Vsech Svatych (All Saints Church), Sedlec.

Later, in April 1860, Frank & Katherine had another daughter and named her Josephine as a way to honor the daughter they lost in 1855. It was this Josephine that went to the United States with her family aboard the SS America and eventually settled in Lyle Township, Mower County, Minnesota.
