Leonard was born August 9, 1923 in Carl Junction, Mo. and had lived in the Joplin- Carl Junction area most of his life.
He retired in 1983 as a machinist for the Sperry-Vickers Corp. in Joplin following twenty years of service.
Leonard served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II.
He was a member of the Webb City American Legion Post #322.
Leonard married Madeline Donaldson November 15, 1945 in Joplin. She preceded him in death on March 16, 2014.
He was also preceded in death by a son, David Strait, and a daughter, Claudia Buckley. Survivors include a son, Donald Strait, New Mexico, four daughters, Mary Dennen and Susan Strait, both of Joplin, Elen Strait, Galena, Mo., and Jayne Strait, Lewisville, Tx., two sisters, Margaret Hall, and Bobbie Skoglund-Nutt, both of Carl Junction, six grandchildren; Curtis, Stacey and Jason Dennen, Rebecca Lashley, and Paul and Austin Strait, and four great grandchildren.
