Mrs. Barbara Gail York Chapman, 74, of Plantation Drive, passed away Friday, March 21, 2003, at Village Care of King. Mrs. Chapman was born Oct. 3, 1928, in McDowell County, W. Va. to the late G.W. and Stella Renee Brewer York. She was preceded in death by her husband, Iowa Chapman and was a member of World Wide Church of God in Mount Airy.

Surviving are three daughters, Maxine Chapman Broadway of King, Delphus Holden (Harold) of Pinnacle and Gail Sawyers of King; five sons, Robert York (Carolyn) of Little River, S.C., David Chapman of Pinnacle, Aaron Chapman (Rondalynn) of Pinnacle, Frank Romayo of Mount Airy and Joe Romayo of Pinnacle; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Josephine Lawson of Siloam, Geraldine Mabe of Pulaski, Va., Vida Peterson of Hillsville, Va. and Shirley Blevins of Ararat.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Cox-Needham Funeral Home by the Rev. Glenard Lawson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Resident Fund, Village Care of King, P.O. Box 1750, King, NC 27021. Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain is assisting the Chapman family.
