Betty was born July 24, 1927 near the town of Tye in Taylor County to Henry Russell Bird and Velta Inez Poston Bird. She married John Pete Hines Oct. 25, 1945 and together they had three sons, John Russell, Clyde David, and Steven Douglas Hines. Pete preceded her in death in 1971. After the death of Pete, she became the librarian at Westbrook High School for 20 years. She married an old high school friend, Cecil Messimer in 1992 and they were blessed to have 22 years together before he passed away in 2014. She spent her remaining years attempting to read everything she had not had time to read until then.
Betty is survived by her sons, John and Carla Hines of Crawford, Texas, Clyde and Darlene Hines of Lovington, New Mexico and Steve and Dedra Hines of Houston, Texas; brother, Bill Bird of San Angelo; sister, Rebecca Del Real of Colorado City, Texas.
