Boyd graduated from Centerville High School in 1938 and attended the University of Minnesota for 1 year. He worked with his father at Midland Insurance and then began farming. He married Loreen Olsen on November 28, 1947. Boyd also sold DeKalb seed corn and attended cattle sales, buying cattle for himself and others. In 1958 he bought his father’s insurance agency and worked until 1986 when he retired.
Boyd was baptized and confirmed at Scandia Lutheran Church where he was a lifelong member. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, visiting, telling stories, and had a great sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sharon Johnson, grandson Lance Buseman, son-in-law Gary Preheim, great-granddaughter Kylie Ellis, brothers Clifford, Berdell and Kalmer, sisters-in-law Signie, Grace and Darlene, and brother-in-law Ray Nelson.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Loreen Knudson, Centerville; six daughters, Karen (Larry) Ellis, Centerville, Joyce (Marty) Buseman, Centerville, Kathy (Larry) Schultz, Sioux Falls, Pam (Barry) Hughes, Alcester, Jan (Doug) Stevens, and Lori (Kevin) Hecht; two sons, DeLee (Vickie) Knudson, and Dale (Sherrie) Knudson, all of Centerville; 23 grandchildren, Brad (Kim) Preheim, Bryan Preheim, Amy (Tom) Erickson, Jodi (Jason) Lounsbery, Kevin (Becky) Ellis, Stephanie (Andy) McCaulley, Matt Johnson, Jeff Schultz, Corey Ellis, Dustin (Maggie) Stevens, Rachael (Cody) Carstensen, Jake Hughes, Aaron (Jasmine) Buseman, Jeremy (Michele) Schultz, Brady Ellis, Katie Knudson, Preston (Shalee) Stevens, Kyle Knudson, Justin (Christine) Hughes, Adam Schultz, Tyler (Natalie) Hecht, Heather Hecht, and Stacy Hecht, 33 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; brother Darrell (Aileen) Knudson, Arizona; sister Rosalie Nelson, Arizona; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery, rural Centerville. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 6PM to 8PM with a prayer service at 7PM.
