PASSING OF E. H. SMITH
"Died Suddenly At His Home Saturday Evening"
The citizens of Lamoni were shocked Saturday evening when the news was heralded that E. H. ("Bub") Smith was dead. While it was known that he had been sick for some time it was not known thus he was in a dangerous condition.

Mr. Smith was a prominent businessman and had a host of friends who will greatly miss him. He was a whole-souled, big-hearted fellow with it good word for everybody, and was noted as being a good family man and as being very kind to his parents.

During our thirty years acquaintance with him, we have never known him to do a mean or dishonest act. Having known him as we have it is with heartfelt sympathy for the bereaved ones that we pen these lines. As a mark of esteem, the business houses were closed during the funeral exercises.

The pall bearers were his brothers, C. F., T. J., and A. H. Smith, and his cousins, Charlie, Bert, and Orra Teale. There were a large number of out-of-town relatives in attendance at the funeral.

Ephraim Henry Smith, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Smith, was born February 1, 1866, at Gratiot, Lafayette County, Wisconsin. His parents came to Iowa when he was nine months old, where he has since resided.

He was married February 14, 1889, to Jennie Randall, who died June 1, 1898.

June 24, 1902, he was married to Martha Lillian Conover. To this union were born two children, Martha Lorraine, aged 7, and James Ralph, aged 4.

After an illness of several weeks, death occurred at his home in Lamoni, September 17, 1910, at the age of 44 years, 7 months, and 16 days.

Funeral services were held on September 19, at which Elder John Smith was the speaker assisted by Rev. R. M. Shipman. The expression of sympathy was generous the profusion of flowers, and the attendance at the funeral was very large. Interment in Rose Hill Cemetery.
