John G.'s mother died when the twins were about three or four years of age in 1853. They were raised by their step-mother, Elizabeth Walton and remained in the home of their father and step-mother until they located in Ohio in the early 1880's. The twins were about 30 years of age in 1880.
John had not attained the age of 63 years when he died in 1912 of cancer of the face and neck. He was a farm laborer, never owning his own property. Following his death in 1912, his widow, "Belle" Loudermilk and children returned to their former residence in Jackson Co, Ohio. Belle would live another eighteen years when she died in 1930.
