He married a widow, Margaret Cole, in 1875 for his 2nd wife. She, too, was a cousin to George. Margaret Parkins Cole was the daughter of Levin Parkins, a brother to James Perkins Jr. who was the father of George's mother. Thus, his 2nd wife was a 1st cousin once removed. Margaret died 11 years later in 1886. Her FAG memorial may be viewed at # 59169598.
While George appeared in the 1880 Greenbrier census with his 2nd wife, he does not appear in the 1900 census. In the 1910 census George F. Loudermilk appeared as a widower, 65 years of age, residing in Union CO, Oregon. His bother Levin and a sister, Abigail were also residing in Union CO at that same time.
George F. Loudermilk would have been about 17 years of age in 1861, the beginning of the Civil War. There are family historians who believe he may have joined the 26th Virginia Battalion, Company B (also known as Edgars Battalion). This was a Confederate battalion that recruited heavily out of Monroe & Greenbrier Co.'s. The claim is supported by a FAG memorial (# 93374611) under the name of George Franklin Loudermilk located in the Confederate Section of the Hollywood Cemetery in Virginia.
