John Milton Carr was born on December 14, 1837 in Allen County, Ohio. He was the son of the late Jacob Allen Carr, and Sarah (Hillyard) Carr. John was married to Mary Jane (Umphries) Carr in 1864. Mary was the daughter of the late Silas H. and Lucinda (Russell) Umphries. John and Mary had six children during this marriage and this included; Silas Harmom, B. 1865, Joseph Elmer, b. 1866, Jacob Allen, b. 1869, Clarence Edgar, b. 1877, Mary Edna, b. 1878, and Hugh Elbert, b. 1880. During their marriage the Carrs moved to Wayne County, Iowa in 1874 and then to Newton County, Missouri in 1876. Mr. Carr passed away on March 1, 1912 from septicemia. He was laid to rest in Van Buren Cemetery.
