Chester (Charlie) Paul Barwick, 81, passed away on August 24, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with COPD and Emphasima. Born March 8, 1933, in Soperton, Georgia to Lourine and C.P. Barwick.

He moved to Florida at the age of 12 to live with his Aunt Mary and Herbert Kight. He moved back to Georgia and joined the Navy in 1949. He first served the Navy as a cook and then later crossed over into the Seabees in 1958. He served in the Korean War aboard the USS Soley and did two tours in the Vietnam War. He rose to the rank of Master Chief and served in that capacity for fifteen years until his retirement in the Navy after 29 ½ years. He joined the Foreign Service in 1979 and served in five different posts before retiring in 1988 due to his wife having cancer. Shortly after, he started his own handyman business which he ran until 2007.

He is survived by his daughter, Toni Kemp; son, Gerald Barwick; and daughter, Debbie Billing and son-in-law, Jim Billing; and granddaughter, Hannah Billing; and ex-wife, RoseMarie Barwick.

A celebration of his life will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 3600 Virginia Beach, VA 23452, 757-463-0150. Interment will follow in Princess Anne Memorial Park. A viewing will take place for family and friends from 1 to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (daughter Toni has MS) or the American Lung Association of Virginia. - Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home & Crematory
