Rebecca Peggy Jean Goforth Watts Wray, 82, of Clover, was a daughter to the late Giles Marvin and Mary Salena Huffstetler Goforth. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Daniel Watts and Jack Glenn Wray; brothers, Alfonzo Goforth and Jackson Goforth; sisters, Mary Whitaker, Zoe Wells, Alene Faulkner, Mae McCarter, Lida Barrett and Eva House.
Until her health declined, Mrs. Wray was an active member of Bethany ARP Church. She previously attended Clover ARP Church and Oakdale Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Wray was a Sunday School Teacher and Youth Leader for 28 years at these churches. She was also a Charter Member and in active service for 56 years of at the Clover Chapter 138 of the Eastern Star and was inducted as the very first Martha. She held ten different offices and was Worthy Matron. She served four out of the five star points with Ester being her last station.
Mrs. Wray was very athletic, loved basketball and played on the Women's Clover High School Basketball Team. She also pitched for the Men's baseball team. She attended Columbia Business College after graduating in 1949 from Clover High School with a full scholarship. Upon graduation she worked at Columbia Baptist Hospital. She married Carl Watts in 1951 and had a son Carl before her husband was killed in Korea. She remained in her home in Columbia and traveled home to help her mother on the weekends. There she met Jack Glenn Wray and married him on June 1, 1957. Together they had two daughters. During her children's school experience, Jean founded the PTA for Bethany Elementary and served as president. She spearheaded funding to improve the school quality. Jean and Jack celebrated their 40thAnniversary prior to his death. Mrs. Wray was employed by American Thread, Carlisle Knits, and Klear Knit where she worked in the business office for 25 years. Jean loved to garden, plant flowers, her she loved her extensive family, her church family where she especially enjoyed welcoming new visitors. She had too many attributes to list. Jean was a loving mother, sister, daughter, friend, mentor, role model, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, teacher, and was a very modest giving and loving faithful servant.
Interment in Bethany ARP Church Cemetery.
