J.L. Giandalia, Armstrong retiree

Joseph L. Giandalia, 65, a retired Armstrong World Industries foreman, died Monday at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., after an illness.

A resident of 981 E. Orange St., he was the husband of Catherine E. McClune Giandalia. The couple observed their 46th wedding anniversary in September 1989.

An Armstrong employee for 46 years, Giandalia retired in January 1989. At the time of his retirement, he was a maintenance and construction foreman in the engineering department of Armstrong's Research and Development Center.

Giandalia served as a machinist in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of the Lancaster Toastmasters.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late James and Lucy Contino Giandalia.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kathy R., wife of Michael L. Walker, Annapolis, Md., and Judy A., wife of James S. Snyder, Conestoga; a son, James J., Lancaster; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mary, wife of Ralph Darrah, Paradise, and Rosie, wife of Peter Randisi, Conestoga; and two brothers, John, Kansas City, Mo., and Leonard, Texas.

GIANDALIA - Entered into rest in Bethesda, Md., on July 16, 1990. JOSEPH L. GIANDALIA, husband of Catherine E. McClune Giandalia, of 981 E. Orange St., Lancaster, Pa., In his 66th year. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial from St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 501 East Orange St., Lancaster, Pa., on Thursday, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. E. Patrick Lynch as celebrant. Final Commendation and Farewell will be in Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster. Friends may call at St. Anthony's Catholic Church on Thursday from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc. in charge of arrangements.
