Lillie Mae Grasham Carey 1926-2015
Lillie Mae Grasham Carey, 89, died Tuesday, July 21, 2015.
Born May 21, 1926, in Danville, she was the daughter of the late Henry Dwight and Tressie Mae Adkisson Grasham. She graduated from Danville High School in 1945 and retired from Corning Glass Works and North American Philips as a bulb inspector.
Lillie was the widow of J.R. Carey and in her younger years played piano by ear in church and at school. She was famous for her crocheted afghans and loved her pet cats, Gretchen and Hazel.
She was predeceased by her sister and brothers, Georgia, Stanley M., James and Ernest Grasham, and her grandson, Steven Todd Tully.
Survivors include her son and daughters, John Randall "Pee Wee" (Deborah) Carey and Janice (Steve) Tully, both of Danville, and Melody Lane Carey of Lincoln County; five grandchildren, Jeannette Wilson, Michelle (Scott) Douglas, Lee (Tonya) Girdler, Kimberly (Doug) Prater and Jennifer Lynn Tully; and eight great-grandchildren, Lauren and Sydney Polston, Kristin Douglas, John Evan Girdler, Max, Kate and Ryan Prater and Savannah Tully.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home. The Rev. Odis Clark will offi ciate. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Lee Girdler, David Becker, Scott Douglas, Doug Prater, Billy Jeffries and Wayne Young. Honorary pallbearers will be Stuart Risden, Donald Lewis, Donnie Carey, Dr. Daniel Moran and Bud Jeffries.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Stith Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial donations be sent to Heritage Hospice.
