Died of tuberculosis of the lungs. He was married to Mary Jane Ullery by John Metzger, prominent Brethren minister, at Macon Co. Illinois. He enlisted in the military on 9 Feb 1865 at Springfield, Illinois in Col I 150th Regiment, Illinois Infantry. He mustered out 16 Jan 1866. He served near Atlanta, Georgia.

He and his family moved to Crawford county, Kansas, in October 1875. He was one of the founders of Osage Church of the Brethren, McCune, Kansas, in 1875-78. In 1889, He and Mary Jane and some of their children moved back to Illinois near LaPlace in Piatt county.
