Genevera P. "Nev" Carlson, 93, of Kentland, died at 2:40 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2003, in Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, Ill.

Born April 28, 1909, in rural Newton County, she lived there most of her life and attended Brook High School and South Bend Business College.

Mrs. Carlson was a former correspondent for the Journal and Courier in Lafayette.

She married Sherwood Carlson on April 4, 1937, and he died Oct. 5, 1975.

Mrs. Carlson was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Kentland, Golden Rod Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Kentland Women's Club, Tri Kappa sorority, Hazelden Country Club and Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was active in many local organizations, including being a Girl Scout leader for 60 years.

Surviving are a son, Jerry L. Carlson, and a sister, Ester Stevens, both of Kentland; two grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Addie Montgomery Padgett; 2 brothers, Alvin Padgett and Robert Padgett.

Visitation at McMullan-Stitz Funeral Home, Kentland, with Eastern Star service at 4 p.m. March 17, 2003. Funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Kentland, the Rev Joseph Smith officiating. Interment Buswell Cemetery.
