Ronald Ray Baum, 83, passed away at his Yuma home. He was a fire chief and veteran of the U.S. Navy.

No services are planned. Yuma Mortuary and Crematory is handling arrangements.

Ronald R. Baum, 83 of Yuma, AZ died July 10, 2015. Ron was born on October 1, 1931 in Coolidge, KS to Harold Baum and Vera Strain Baum. He joined his siblings Vivian, Geraldine, Kenneth, Pauline (died as infant), and Myrna.

The family moved to Eaton, CO where Norma and Barnard completed the family.

Ron attended schools in Eaton, CO graduating from Eaton High School in 1950. He joined the US Navy in 1950 and was discharged in 1954 after serving in the Korean War. Ron married Delores Schaefer in Greeley, CO on November 8, 1953. They had four daughters Janet, Jean, Jolene and Jill. They moved to Casper, WY in 1956.

Ron had many occupations in his life. In his younger years he helped the family working the wheat harvest in Kansas and hauling produce for Baum Fruit and Produce. He started working for the Casper Fire Department in 1962, concluding his career as the Fire Chief in 1987. In retirement, Ron and Delores traveled throughout the United States visiting friends and family, finally settling in Yuma, AZ.

Ron enjoyed many activities in his life: hunting, water skiing, riding motorcycles, camping, sailing, golfing, playing cards and board games, and refereeing youth sports. Many memories were made with relatives and friends during camping trips in campers and the motorhome. Camping sites included Glendo, gravel pits, other places near and far, and Alcova Lake where the family spent most summers. Recently, Ron and Delores have enjoyed supporting the Matadors, the athletic teams representing Arizona Western College in Yuma.

Ron is survived by his wife Delores of Yuma, AZ; children: Janet Ragan of Lander, WY, Jean (Greg) Hanway of Casper, WY, Jolene (Tom) Caldon of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Jill (Rob) Grause of Corvallis, OR; grandchildren: Joshua (Heather) Carter, Janelle Henderson, Trevor Ragan, Justine Henderson, Eric Ragan, Aryn Grause, Matthew Grause, Ali Ragan, and Kristi Ragan; great grandchildren: Taiven and Kolton Carter, his siblings: Myrna Schnorr, Norma Mill, and Barnard Baum, brother-in-law Robert Rhoades; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Vera, siblings Pauline, Russell, Kenneth, Geraldine Rhoades and Vivian Huser.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned. A private celebration of life will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Local 904 Pipes and Drums, 4718 Mountain Way, Casper, WY 82601 or Hospice of Yuma, 1824 S. 8th Avenue, Yuma, AZ 85364.
