Richard Brown, high school student and 15-year-old son of Chester Brown, of the Clear Creek neighborhood, was operated upon this morning for a abcess [sic] of the hip by Dr. Gordon Batman of Indianapolis. A short time ago while playin gat the high school the lad slipped and fell on his hip. Only a slight bruise and soreness was caused and nothing was thought of the mishap until the lad started to feel bad, and then he slowly became worse, developed a fever and forty-eight hours ago was taken to the hospital delirious with high fever. The trouble was diagnosed as an abcess [sic] starting from the bruised hip, and the operation this morning relieved the trouble. It is expected that the patient will now make a quick recovery.

The Chester Brown family has had more that its share of trouble and grief. Mr. Brown is a brother of William and Paul Brown, well known local auto dealers. Within the last year his wife died and this death in the family followed the death of a child from diphtheria.
