Fred Russell Clause, 85, of 905 Creve Coeur Ave., Creve Coeur, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at his residence.

He was born on Oct. 10, 1920, in Sweet Springs, Mo., to Santa and Minnie Mae Hill Clause. He married Ida Ruth Preston on May 4, 1955, in Peoria, Ill. She preceded him in death in May 1994.

Surviving are three stepdaughters, Bobbie (William) Straker of Pekin, Ill., Mary E. (John) Smith of Morton, Ill., and Barbara (Richard) Lutton of Three Oaks, Mich.; and two sisters, Amy Martin of Marshall, Mo., and Edna (Raymond) Vollrath of Creve Coeur, Ill.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Bill, Joe and Jim; one sister, Daisy; and one grandson, Albert Meldon.

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving from September 1940 to October 1945, during which time he spent two years in the Aleutian Islands.

He was a machinist for Caterpillar Inc. where he worked for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of UAW Local 974.

Burial will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria, Ill.
