Doe Hill News
Last night at ten o'clock Mr. Wm. H. Armstrong answered the last roll call. He had been in delicate health for some time, but was able to walk about and do light work. Yesterday he gathered berries and did some work in the meadow, which likely overtaxed his strength and brought on an attack of heart failure which he survived only ten minutes. Funeral services will be held at McKendree church tomorrow 10 a.m. Interment in the adjacent cemetery. Another veteran gone - The ranks thinning - and the time is not far distant when they will live in memory only.

Crosses of Honor Bestowed Wednesday June third was made a most enjoyable day for many in Monterey by the meeting at the court house of the Highland chapter of the U.D.C an interesting meeting to which the public had been invited. It IS not known how many of the old veterans were here, but, we know they are becoming decimated and those remaining are with us but “for a season”.
The impressive ceremony of bestowing the Crosses of Honor took place, and the following veterans and other eligible were the recipients: Abbot L. Armstrong, WM. H. ARMSTRONG, Josiah Armstrong
