In 1868 George and his brother J B came to Atchison County, Kansas, then to Republic County Kansas in 1870. He homesteaded the N.E. 1/4 of Section 25 in Scandia Township. He was one of the earliest settlers in that part of the Township. There was 1 house in sight when he moved on his place. He was 60 miles from market at Junction City.
George Bowling served as Justice of Peace for 2 terms, once in 1874 and again in 1882. He was elected State Senator 32nd District 1892 - plurality in district 158.
He leaves two daughters and two sons as immediate members of the family. Mr. Bowling was a Mason, an Odd Fellow, an Elk and member of the S & D of J. He was treasurer of the Republic County Mutual Fire Insurance Company at the time of his death, The funeral was held at the Providence Chapel church.
The burial was under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge.
