W. Thomas Smith of China Spring, retired chief of educational therapy at the Veterans Administration Hospital, died Saturday at a local hospital. He was 86.
Graveside services 4 pm Monday at Waco Memorial Park, the Rev. Ron Durham officiating.
Mr. Smith was born March 3, 1908 in China Spring. He graduated from Waco High School and Baylor University with a master's degree in education. He married Grace Moore Skinner in 1942; she died in 1983.
He served in World War II as a first lieutenant in the Army Medical Services Corp. Mr. Smith retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital after 30 years as chief of educational therapy. Mr. Smith was a member of the Frank Wilson class at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Sherrill Kangas of Waco; three sisters, Verna D. Burnett of Athens, Alene Brooks of Houston and Nell Diaz of Fort Worth; and two grandchildren.
