W.O. GLASSCO OF CHARLESTON DIES ON SUNDAY--Prominent Citizen Succumbs After Long Illness; Former Public Officer--LAST RITES WEDNESDAY--CHARLESTON, Nov. 26--William O. Glassco, 70, secretary of the Coles County Agricultural association for the past 31 years and former public office holder, died in his home, 805 Tenth street, at 11:45 o'clock on Sunday night from complications of diseases. He had been ill a year and was confined to his bed for the past three weeks.

Funeral services will be conducted in the family residence at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon by Rev. H.B. Lewis. Burial will be in Mound cemetery.

Mr. Glassco leaves his widow, Mrs. Mary E. Glassco, a daughter, Miss Alta Glassco, Chicago; three brothers, George Glassco, Urbana, Ill.; Bruce Glassco, Kansas City, and John Glassco, Little Rock, and three grandchildren, William, Hugh, Jr., and George Reat. A daughter, Mrs. Hugh (Frankie) Reat died about four years ago.

LODGE MEMBER--Mr. Glassco was a member of the Elks lodge, secretary for years, and held that official capacity at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge, and of the Uniform Rank.

He was born in Seven Hickory township on January 13, 1859, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Glassco, long deceased. On September 2, 1885 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary E. Norris in Charleston. They passed the next 18 years on the farm in Seven Hickory township, and in 1903 moved to Charleston, taking up their residence in the home where Mr. Glassco died.

HELD PUBLIC OFFICES--He served as an efficient secretary of the fair association for the past 31 years, longer than any person ever served in a similar capacity. The annual meeting of the fair board was to have been conducted on Monday. Mr. Glassco was instrumental in the immediate rehabilitation of the fair ground in 1917 when the storm ruined the most beautiful fair ground in the country.

Mr. Glassco was deputy sheriff under the regime of Dick Slover years ago. He was Seven Hickory township treasurer one term, was special officer on many occasions, acted as assistant county treasurer, assistant assessor, and for some time was probation officer.
