NEW BERN - William Richard Dittman, 68, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all, died Dec. 30, 2009, at Pitt Memorial Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Dorothy Dittman; brothers and sisters, Lawrence, Robert, Walter, David, Dorothy Belle and a baby sister.

He was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church and was very much involved with the boy scouts at the church. Early in his life baseball was his passion.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at Faith United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Hardy Dittman; sons, William R. Dittman Jr. and wife, Shellie, of Oklahoma, Richard Wayne Dittman and wife, Melodie, of Virginia, Kenneth T. Dittman and wife, Aubrey, of Virginia, John N. Staten Jr. and wife, Tracy, of North Carolina and Jack R. Staten Sr. and wife, Vicki, of North Carolina; daughters, Brenda L. Sweet and husband, Fred, of Oklahoma, April C. Green and husband, Scott, of Texas, Katherine R. Dittman of North Carolina, Victoria L Ducharme and husband, David, of South Carolina and Donna M. Adams and husband, Chris, of Virginia; brothers, Donald Dittman and wife, Mary, of Ohio, Harry Dittman and wife, Phyllis, of Indiana, Eugene Dittman and wife, Shirley, of Ohio, Kenneth Dittman of Pennsylvania and John Dittman of New York; sisters-in-law, Betty Dittman of Maryland, Marguerite Edwards of Texas, Cindy Dittman of Pennsylvania and Fayrene Dittman of Colorado; sisters, Mary Jane Mullen and her husband, Daryl, of Pennsylvania and Nancy McClintock and husband, Robert, of Pennsylvania; 23 grandchildren, Ryann Potter, Nikki Andrews, Jeremy Dittman, Megan Teague, Christopher Teague, Dakota Sweet, Brian Collins, Jordan Dittman, Haley Dittman, Jacob Dittman, Travis Green, Kayla Green, Lauren Green, John N. Staten III, Jack Staten Jr., MacKenzie Staten, Spencer Ducharme, Ethan Ducharme, Alena Ducharme, Lauren Huff, Hilary Huff, Brent Huff, and Aaron Adams: eight great-grandchildren, Madison Sweet, Alea Teague, Felicity Staten, Kaylee Potter, Zoe Potter, Kylin Andrews, Kalijah Andrews and Cheyenne Andrews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith United Methodist Church Cub Scout Troop and Faith United Methodist Church Pastors Apartment Fund and Salem United Methodist Church of Christ.
