Joseph was born near Augusta Maine and died at Primghar, IA at the age of 72 years 8 months and 22 days. When he was about 13 years of age he moved with his Uncle to Pontiac, Ill. His father was Joseph Tibbets and mother Edna Bennett Chandler Tibbetts. His father died when Joseph Roswell was only a few weeks old and his mother remarried to Charles Corson. He had one older sister Ella Rosabel. He had six half brothers and sisters. About 1873 he was married to Jane (Jennie) Gates to which were born five children: Charles, Edwin, Harry, Herbert and Walter. They were living in Pontiac Ill in May 1876. In 1881 the family moved to Hartley, IA where he started farming. Jennie died in Feb 1885. After her death, Joseph became a Veterinarian. On Mar 31, 1889 he married Emma Jane Barrup to which four children were born: Clifford, Eva, Myrtle and Horace. Emma Died Feb 1, 1906. Joseph was living with Horace for a few months in 1920 in Wisconsin. He became ill and returned to Iowa. After a year's illness in Sioux City he returned to Primghar where he died. It is believed the Tibbetts came from either England, Ireland or Scotland. There were five original families that came to Canada and later moved southward to the United States.
