Edwin was the second son of Joseph and Jennie Tibbetts and was born in Pontiac IL. He came to IA with his parents in 1881 and lived with them in O'Brien County. In addition to the common schools he attended Highland Park College and Iowa State College. In 1898 he was in Co A 51st Iowa Inf in San Francisco waiting to go to Manilla in the Phillippines. He arrived in Manilla in Dec 1898 and he became ill with Malaria in April then again in June 1899. He was sent home after the second time. He was a veteran of the Spanish American War. He was united in marraige in Peterson IA on Sept 20, 1900 to Lulu Dell Kinyon. Three children were born to this union: Harold Burl, Dell Kinyon and Leona Bell. They lived in Clay county where he was a farmer until 1931 when they moved to La Porte City, IA. Here he worked as a trucker and for the city. At one time he was mayor of La Porte City. He passed away suddenly and unexpectedly while at work at age 80 years 4 months and 7 days. He was a member and past Master of Welcome Lodge #536 A. F. & A. M. of Peterson, IA. He was skilled in the Masonic work and his ability as an officer and as a worker was well known in Peterson and in Black Hawk County. He and Lulu enjoyed fishing at Lake of the Woods in Canada.
