William died at his residence near Stark on Reb 17th, 1898. He was 52years, 11 months, 11 dyas old. He was born at Noblesville, Hamilton county, Indiana on March 6th 1845, and was married to Emily Baily at Danville, Indiana in 1868. They lived in Indiana untill 1879 when they moved to Missouri and in 1880 they came to Kansas and located near Stark,Neosho county, Ks. His affliction was an abcess on the liver, terminal with hemorrhage of the bowels. He met death calmly. When he heard the silver oars dipping in the water he stepped down into the boat and quietly passed over on the other shore. He leaves a wife and two sons, Elbert and Oscar, two sisters, Mrs. Mary E. Riley, Barton county, Mo. and Miss Hannah J Coverdale of Stark, Ks., Five Brothers: S.R. Coverdale, H.C. Coverdale of Walnut,A.R Coverdale and George Coverdale of Stark, I.O. Coverdale of Kimball. The funeral services were attended by a large concourse of sympathizing friends and neighbors ane were held at his residence with the Rev. C.E. West of stark officating.

When the hour of his departure came he said he was ready to go and affectionally bid farwell to his loved ones.. He was an upright man , a devoted husband and a loving father. His death, while not unexpected, cast a deep gloom over his home and the community. When his loving wife and children looked upon his cold, pallid face and fully realized that he had gone to his rest, they bowed their heads and wept with sorrow.
