"Surprise on Their Golden Wedding" Relatives and Friends of Mr. and Mrs John VanBuren Extend Congratulations.....
About thirty of the relatives of Mr and Mrs J.B. VanBuren gave them a surprise at their home on Sunday, Dec. 10, it being the 50th anniversary of their wedding. They met at the home of Charles Van Buren on Saratoga Avenue at 10
a.m. and preceded to the home where they found Mr. VanBuren who was very much surprised to receive so many of his relatives. Mrs VanBuren was attending church and upon her arrival home, she was also very much surprised to find her
home filled with relatives. They were presented with several gold pieces after which lunch was served and a grand reunion had. The occasions was also the
seventieth birthday of Mrs. VanBuren. Those present were Mr. And Mrs. John L. Harris, Mr and Mrs Abner Harris, Waterford; Miss Luella Harris, Troy; Mr and Mrs James Davis, Mrs Edwin Harris, Albany; Mrs R. C. Lamb, Edith Lamb, Middle Granville; Mrs and Mrs J. A. P. Ketchum and maid, Florence Ketchum, Jr., Mr and Mrs Rowland Lamb, Jr., Saratoga Springs; Mr and Mrs Alfred Parker, Mr and Mrs

John B VanBuren, an aged and respected resident of his village, died at his home on Milton Avenue at 3:30 yesterday afternoon. Mr VanBuren had been in feeble health for a number of years. Mr VanBuren was born in the town of Ballston, March 30 1847, being eighty-one years of age. He had been a lifelong resident of the county and resided in
this village for over fifty years. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. For many years on coming to this village he was employed by the late Congressman George West. Later he conducted a meat market on South Street with
his son, the late Charles VanBuren and for several years after that a gasoline filling station and repair shop on Saratoga Avenue, until infirmities of age and the death of his son caused him to retire from business.
He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Katherine Harris, and four grandchildren., Mrs Harry Bensel, William H and Charles VanBuren, of this village, and John B. VanBuren, of Erie PA., also three sisters., Mrs John L Harris of Waterford; Mrs Walter Burr and Mrs Clara Hone, of Toledo Ohio.
Private funeral at his late residence on Monday at 2:30 p.m. the Rev Dr C.G.Martin to officiate. Burial in the village cemetery. (copy of obit provided by
