Donald Smith was born in Creston and had lived in Granger before moving to Dallas Center 33 years ago. He was a retired auto mechanic with several area Chevrolet dealers and had received a Chevrolet "Only the Best Club" award. He enjoyed camping and fishing and had attended the Iowa State Fair for 55 consecutive years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter, Donna Hansen of Dallas Center; two sons, Dan of Des Moines and Rick of Adel; a stepdaughter, Shirley Greif of Dallas Center; two brothers, Carroll of Virginia Beach, Va., and Ken of Bentonville, Ark.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at Brandt Funeral Home in Dallas Center, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Dallas County Rescue Unit.
