Audrey Pearl Brady, 99, went home to Paradise April 28, 2015, following a short illness. She was a cherished wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend to all. She will be deeply missed by the SE Polk and East High communities. Audrey was born in Adelphi, Iowa, on November 16, 1915, to Eugene and Mary (Miller) Suddeth. The eldest of eight, Audrey regarded her siblings as her own babies. That attitude carried forward. When she met someone, Audrey greeted them with a warm hug, a smile, and an "Aren't you precious?" If you knew Audrey, you were family. After graduating from East High School, Audrey married the love of her life Dale Brady on her 20th birthday. This union was blessed with three sons: Dan, Tom, and Steve. The family lived in the Altoona area for many years until moving to rural Runnells (now Pleasant Hill). It was here that the boys and Dale built Toad Valley Golf Course where Audrey was the matriarch for nearly 42 years. Audrey's gentle, kind nature drew people to her (her excellent cooking didn't hurt either). People were inspired by her love of God, her Bible knowledge, her lovely singing, her sewing and quilting abilities, her dedication to exercising at The Campus, her enduring optimism, and her tenacious spirit. As she grew older, Audrey would say that she was lucky because God had blessed her with such a strong body, mind, and soul. Her Christian family at the Pleasant Hill Church of Christ, where Audrey was a founding member, can attest to this. Audrey leaves behind a lasting legacy: her sons, Tom (Lois "Fred") Brady and Steve (Nancy) Brady of Pleasant Hill, her daughter-in-law Peg Brady of Pleasant Hill, nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, her sister Mary Alice (Bud) Fillman of Carlisle, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six siblings, her son Dan, and her great-granddaughter Brittany Sloan.
