BROOKSTON - Herman Marrs Speak, 83, died at 6:20 PM Sunday [Nov. 26, 1989] in St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi, where he had been a patient since Nov.2. Born Sept. 4, 1906, in Monroe County, KY, he came to White County in 1945. He had lived at Chalmers before moving to Brookston in 1984. He married his first wife Bertha Alice Cain on March 7, 1924, in Tennessee; she died April 3, 1982. He married Marie Crace, in Brookston, on Sept. 14, 1984; she survives. Mr. Spear worked at Ross Gear Division of TRW for 18 years before retiring in 1969. He also was a retired farmer. He was a member of Brookston Church of Christ.

Surviving with his wife are six daughters, Estell (Mrs. Arthur) Shaw of Delphi, Bonnie (Mrs. Vincent) Cain of Remington, Wendy (Mrs. Jerry) Murphy of Palm Desert, CA, Doyle (Mrs. Ivan) Logan of Montgomery, IL, Nina (Mrs. Beecher) Crace of Brookston, and Shirley (Mrs. Larry) Weaver of Santa Ana, CA; three sons, Rester "Dusty" Spear of Charlestown, WV, Wayford T. "Sandy" Spears of Indianapolis, and Floyd "Denny" Spear of Lothian, MD; four stepsons, Beecher Crace of Brookston, Robert Crace of Oak Hill, OH, Steve Crace of Murfreesboro, TN, and Al Crace of Earl Park; two stepdaughters, Shirley (Mrs. Richard) Hughes of Bloomfield and Dora (Mrs. Dennis) Reynolds of Battle Ground; two brothers, Harlen Spear and Hanley Spear, both of Tompkinsville, KY; one sister, Mrs. Lovie Rush of Sharpsville; 39 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
