He is survived by his wife Antonette, brothers Alexander "Alex", Antoni "Anthony", Blazej Joseph "Blake", Frank & Walter and sister Rose. Also his eleven children.
Joseph was one of a small number of Manistee residents that rode out the collapse of the lumber mills in the area and turned to farming as alternate occupation. All but one of his brothers moved away, most to the Detroit area to work for the auto companies.
