He had been in declining health for some months past, but his last illness was of only a few days duration and with a conscience void of offense towards his fellowman and his peace made with God he stepped over into the future and larger world with confidence in his Saviour.
Mr. Barr was born at Polk Furnace in Monroe Township on January 15, 1846, the son of Samuel and Martha (Morris)Barr. When he was about six years of age the family went to West Virginia, where they lived some years. On their return they settled at Scotch Hill and that was Mr. Barr's home for many years.
He also lived and worked for shorter periods in Forest and Elk counties, but most of his labor thru that period was on the boat scaffold near Scotch Hill. Sixteen years ago this coming spring he removed to Clarion and has since made his home here.
In 1865 he was united in marriage with Sarah Fitzgerald, who survives him with the following children, namely: Saml. H. Barr and Mrs. Albert Howe, Clarion; Mrs. John C. Blair,Columbiana, 0.; Mrs. Charles E. Steiner, Black Mountain, No. Car.; Frank W. Barr, Sheffield; Mrs. Chas. E. Ritts, Pittsburgh; Chas. M. Barr and Mrs. Wm. E. Hopkins, Akron, O. Three sons and one daughter preceded him in death. One sister, Mrs. Rachel Dunkle, Seattle, Wash., and 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive him. His youngest brother, Albert A. Barr, died last October at his home in Washington, Pa.
Mr. Barr was a devout and faithful member of the First Methodist Church, and was a most regular attendant when health permitted. His funeral service was conducted at the home Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock by his pastor, the Rev. Wm. E. Bartlett. The interment was made in the Clarion cemetery.
