Obituary:
Mrs. Matilda Bard, a highly respected resident of Allenport, died Monday evening, August 25, 1941, at 10 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William P. Faust, in Allenport. Mrs. Bard had been ill for some time. Born October 23, 1857, in Germany Valley, she was a daughter of William and Jane (Wilson) Briggs. At the time of death she was aged 83 years, ten months and two days. She was married to Alfred A. Bard in Huntingdon in March, 1885. Mr. Bard preceded her in death. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Bard established a home in Germany Valley, where they spent almost their entire married life. Mrs. Bard was a member of the Methodist church of Shirleysburg. Surviving are the following children: Roy A. Bard, of Mount Union; Orie W. Bard, of Cygnet, Ohio; Mrs. E.J. Hall, of Brockway; Mrs. W.P. Faust, of Allenport; Herman B. Bard, of Newton Hamilton; Mrs. Foster W. Bard, of Germany Valley; Marshal M. Bard, of Mount Union, and Russel D. Bard, at home. There are twenty-five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Faust home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, in charge of the Rev. George W. Swayne and the Rev. Robert Peterson. Interment will be made in the Germany Valley cemetery by Clark's funeral service. Friends may call at the Faust home after Wednesday noon.
