Samuel Elmer LINGO was the firstborn child of Walter Martin LINGO & Bartie Ann DENNIS. He was m. to Ruth Esther RANNEY & with her had two children; he m. (2) in 1981 to Mrs. Marjorie PEASE ALBERT.

"SAMUEL E. LINGO: Samuel E. Lingo served as Agricultural Extension Agent for Washington Co. from Jan. 1, 1944 until his retirement Sep. 1, 1965. He had previously been Extension Agent in Hayes and Thurston counties. He was born at Lineville, IA, Oct. 18, 1902, and was raised on a farm in Page Co., IA, where he graduated from high school.
----After a period of farming with his father near Huron, SD, he graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1927, later receiving a certificate for advanced work in extension Methods.
----The first Samuel Lingo came from Wales to Indian River Hundred in Delaware in the early 1700's, apparently joining other Lingos who had already settled there. At least one Lingo is listed as serving in the Revolutionary Army.
----In 1934, he married Ruth E. Ranney of Weeping Water, NE, who died in 1975. They had two children: Marilyn, born in 1935 and Robert, born in 1941. Both children graduated from the University of Nebraska. In 1980, Marilyn is a Home Extension Agent in Oregon and Robert, after & 7 1/2 years in the U.S. Air Force, is a lawyer with the Defense Department in Washinton D.C.
----In his years as an extension agent, Lingo actively promoted new agricultural advances. He introduced the first weed killers and farm insecticides, and the first commercial fertilizers, in Washington Co. He was recognized for his strong 4H Club program, and in 1965, he received an Award for Agricultural Achievement from the Knights of Ad-Sar-Ben for this program.
