Brief funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Baumgarten Funeral Home for Mrs. L. E. Alexander, former resident, who passed away at Chicago Saturday, December 30. Rev. H. G. Dawes, pastor of the Methodist church was in charge of the services.

Pall bearers were R. Clifton, Charles Williams. Charles Aldred, C. W. Johannsen, Will Long and Everett Van Horn.

Mrs. Alexander was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Towberman, who were among the first white settlers in O'Brien county, where they homesteaded on a farm. She had been in apparent good health until news of the death of her sister, Mrs. R. Tinkham of Cresco, Iowa, in December, when she suffered a heart attack. She was taken to the hospital, where she passed away last Saturday. The body was brought to Sutherland Tuesday and was accompanied by her son and daughter in law, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander of Davenport.

Lillian May Alexander was born at Pekin, Illinois in the year of 1866 and passed away in a Chicago hospital Saturday, December 30, 1944, at the age of 78 years.

She was united in marriage to Lincoln E. Alexander in Sutherland. To this union were born four children: Myrl of Davenport; Helene Ethlyn of San Francisco, Calif., and Ellis. Helene and Ellis preceded their mother in death as did Mr. Alexander, who passed away 15 years ago.

Since her husband's death Mrs. Alexander has lived with her daughter Ethlyn in Chicago, until the latter moved to California recently.

Mrs. Alexander had been ill but ten days and her sudden passing was a shock to the family.
