EAST PEORIA - John David Smith, 65, of East Peoria died Thursday, March 26, 2015, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria. He was born Oct. 21, 1949, in Mount Vernon to Roy E. and Bernice Easley Smith. His mother survives. Preceding him in death were his father and one brother, Stephen of Okeechobee, Fla. Surviving are six brothers, Ralph of Nashville, Patrick of Peoria, Paul of Chillicothe, James of Orlando, Fla., William of East Peoria and Daniel of Sycamore; and two sisters, Elaine Elser of Sheridan, Mont., and Susan Patten of East Peoria. He worked in health care for the Illinois Department of Rehabilitation as a personal assistant for several years. He was an artist, poet and musician with prodigious talent and soaring spirit. He was well loved by his family and friends, and those fortunate enough to have encountered him on their own paths. He made friends easily and though he had little in the eyes of the world, profoundly affected everyone who met him. He was a generous man with a wonderful soul and was a lifelong servant of God. He will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, 2201 E. Washington St., East Peoria.
