Mrs. Maxine Whittle Strawn Martin ,70, of 317 Armstead Avenue, Martinsville, Virginia died Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the Martinsville Hospital. Her funeral services were held at St. Paul High Street Baptist Church. The Rev. William A. Shackleford, Sr. Officiated. Burial was at Carver Memorial Gardens.

She was born Nov. 2, 1941, in Martinsville to William M. Strawn, Sr. and Ruth Hairston Strawn.

She worked at GSI Commerce for 10 years and was a member of St. Paul High Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl M. Hairston of Martinsville and Carla M. Murphy of the home; a son, Curtis R. (Boma) Martin, Jr. of the home, two stepdaughters, Cherry F. Martin Lowe and Dominique L. Martin, both of Martinsville; 10 grandchildren ; one great grandchild; two sisters; Barbara S. Williams of Long Island, New York and Delphine S. Draper of Martinsville; and a brother , James Strawn of Reidsville.

Hines Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
