Laura was the daughter of Jacob F. Ailer (aka Jacob F. Aler) and Margaret (Browing) Hardy Ailer (aka Aler). Laura's father died between 1861 and 1870.

Laura was the daughter of Jacob F. Ailer (aka Jacob F. Aler) (1827-1864) and Margaret (Browning) Hardy Ailer (aka Aler) (1826-1872). Laura's father died in September 1864. His will was probated in Muskingum County, Ohio and Laura's mother and siblings moved to Henry County, Illinois by 1870. Laura and her mother and some siblings then moved to Wayne County, Iowa where Laura married William Oldfield on August 24, 1879. Laura's father, Jacob Ailer/Aler, owned land in Wayne County, Iowa and Poweshiek County, Iowa. Laura's mother and sister, Rebecca, are buried in Wayne County, Iowa.
